Silenced
I've had a rough week. I know, it's only Tuesday. I'm talking about last week and this week. It all started with a pain in my neck on Monday of last week. Since I was talking to somebody about Windows 8, I assumed that was the source of my pain. By Monday night I was not feeling very well and by Tuesday morning I knew I was sick. On Thursday I woke with no voice. And here I am still with a pain in the neck, still coughing, and still not able to speak above a whisper.
I went to the doctor today. She said it's not bronchitis and it's not strep throat and I should keep doing what I'm doing, drink some warm liquids, and stop trying to whisper. That's why I try to avoid going to the doctor. Half the time I end up paying to be told to keep doing what I'm doing, and add something I don't like. I don't like warm drinks, but I stopped at the grocery store on my way home and went down the coffee and tea aisle. I thought maybe I could find some kind of herbal tea that doesn't taste like tea. None of it looked good so I got three boxes, hoping I'd find one that I can choke down. I tried the pomegranate tonight. It still tastes like tea. I doctored it with lots of honey and it tastes like nasty tea with honey in it. I think I managed to drink about three tablespoons of it before giving up. Next I'll try the lemon and ginger. I'm not optimistic. To me it's like drinking warm cough syrup slowly. Yuk.
I know people have bigger problems, but it's my blog and I'll whine if I want to.

Try hot apple cider,l or a hot toddy
Go ahead and whine, so I can whine when it's my turn. Hubby likes raspberry, but someone found pesticides in it, so our store doesn't carry it anymore.
All tea is like drinking dishwater. Except for the turkish tea I have - anise flavor. So strong that it will curl your hair and only manageable if you are a real die hard fan of anise. I have sage too. If you like drinking stove top stuffing... I think your big sister's idea of hot cider is a good one but I prefer hot cocoa.
My mother (and my pediatrician father) swore by honey and lemon -- take a spoonful of honey, and sprinkle some lemon juice over it -- no need to heat it, and it really soothes the throat. Tea with honey and ginger sounds good to me, but I enjoy a good cup of tea, too. I hope you feel better soon!
hot water with lemon and honey in it always did the trick with me as a kid. Now I use chamomile with lemon and honey. If I cant do that I cut an oeange and steam with salt on it till soft and then eat while warm.
Hope you feel better! And whine if you need...
At least your humor is still doing well
. Seriously, I liked the idea of the warm Tang that someone suggested on Facebook. Get well soon, hon.
I actually started liking warm Tea when I moved to Taiwan. Most of the time before I had only drank cold tea or water. One of the ones that I found which helped change my opinion was Celestial Seasons VANILLA Tea.... add just a bit of honey and it's to die for.
I'm sorry your sick too, a friend of mine suggested a concoction of fresh ginger juice ( I'm sure you know how to grate ginger root and squeeze the liquid out) and a teaspoon of honey, you should use local honey if you can get it. It really helped me, I think I had bronchitis but didn't go to the doctor for the same reason you don't like to, so maybe I had something else also, but the honey and ginger helped bunches. I was also curious about warm liquids, wouldn't cold be more soothing? "The words of the prophets are written on the subway wallsAnd tenement halls"And whispered in the sounds of silenceI try not to let a chance to quote simon and garfunkel pass me by
Whine away! Get better too!!!
Tea just tastes like hot water to me. But I have found a berry tea that's okay. And somewhere I have a chocolate tea which was not awful (I'm a chocoholic). Also you could try just chicken broth if you like that. And hey, when you can't speak, at least you can talk on your blog!
Hope you feel better.Look, your whining got you a comment out of me so there's that.
In Colombia they drink herbal teas, most notably wintergreen or lemongrass or cinnamon, with no tea leaves at all. Here they're harder to find. I always liked Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime, though.
@vanedave - It makes being sick worthwhile.
It's been a couple days since you wrote this blog. I hope you are better by now.
It is Friday now. I hope you are feeling better!
sorry you're not feeling well. whining has always helped me feel better, though. Just don't whine to hard or you'll lose what little is left of your voice.
