Jenny Hates Me
Sometimes when I am feeling stressed, I bake. Usually I bake cookies; chocolate chip cookies are my specialty. The past two weeks were pretty stressful. I was staying at my sister’s house in Fort Smith, Arkansas. When my sister is feeling stressed, she eats. Most of the time I was at my sister’s house, our mom was staying there, as well. When my mom is feeling stressed, she washes dishes. This would seem to be an ideally balanced arrangement. I bake, Big Sister eats, Mom washes up.
The problem is that my sister has been on a Jenny Craig diet for about a year now. She’s made great progress.
Yes, Valerie Bertinelli is my sister. Doesn’t she look great?Just kidding. Big Sister does look great, but she never wore a bikini when she was a teenager and we lived on the Gulf Coast, so don’t look for that to happen anytime soon now that she’s a grandma in the Ozarks.
The first week I was in Arkansas, I made a pot roast dinner and, to ease the stress, baked some chocolate chip cookies.
Just trying to pull my weight, so to speak. My sister refused to get on the scale when she went to her Jenny Craig meeting. The second week I was in Arkansas, still trying to be helpful, I made a meatloaf dinner and, for stress relief, a banana split cake.
My sister again refused to get on the scale at her meeting. Her counselor was concerned. "What's going on?" she asked. My sister explained about the stress and the baking, the eating and the washing dishes. The caring, compassionate counselor responded with these words of encouragement:
“Your sister needs to leave town.”Yes, folks, Jenny Craig told me to get the heck out of Dodge. They’re just jealous.
That was a damn good cake.
(Just ask Big Sister.)

= ) Now I'm just going to go grab something nice and chocolate-y to eat!
Maybe you shouldn't call her BIG sister? Just older sister?
The cake looked great to me, lol. Jenny is a party pooper!!
@perelandra30 - Haha! I was referring to her birth order AND xanga screen name. In all other respects, her younger sisters are bigger.
@saintvi - still.............it might help. Just kidding. Sounds like my family. Only my mother wouldn't wash dishes. She'd just stand there making dire predictions like "you'll look like a house if you eat all of those" which would only make me eat all of those.
Boo on Jenny. Everyone needs a little cake sometimes
I am sorry. What did you say after the Valerie Bertinelli photo?
When you said you bake when you're stressed, I was NOT thinking of cookies.
I would've tore that cake to pieces! I don't care if it automatically made me gain 25 lbs I would have eaten it.
It looks absolutely evil, but so good.
I saw Big Sister last Spring and she was really looking great then. I know she is walking a lot. Hopefully, a few good brisk walks can overcome a few chocolate chip cookies!
@TheTheologiansCafe - *la sigh* Somebody needs to smack you on the back of the head. If anybody is tall enough that is.
@TheTheologiansCafe - I knew I could count on you to show up if I posted that photo!
@The44thHour - Quit Twitter-kissing my daughter!
@vanedave - I love the difference between you and Dan. You skipped right over the bikini and went straight for the cake. And it was evil, but very, very delicious.
They're just some big corporation trying to get more and more money from anyone they can. They just didn't want you to become a liability for keeping your sister away from them. haha.
Oh, and I'm sorry I got Krysten sick....
@saintvi - lol. That cake was waaaaayyyyyy sexier than Valerie Bertinelli.
I diet too but my daughter makes these cherry chocolate chip cookies that I cannot resist. I get one for each hand and bliss out. I like your photo blog - it tells the story perfectly and the food looks delicious. Peace
You love to bake when stressed. I stress women out and love to eat baking.
Will you marry me?
That cake looks absolutely AWESOME!!
And you didn't bring me any of the meatloaf or cake? You should be ashamed of yourself.
ROFLMAO- well thankfully your sister still loves you... even if she had to run you out of town!
I wonder if you are the only person to get kicked out by Jenny. That is an awesome story.
Well, if you have nowhere else to go, you and your mad culinary skillz are welcome here.
@Bricker59 - Whatever will her husband say?
LOL!!! That is sooo funny. Jenny Craig asked you to leave town...too funny.
I've found that cooking in general is a great relaxant...until I carve the roast chicken and it's raw. I was depressed for a week, and my mom turned green.
LMAO!
@Bricker59 - I am SO going to write a full post about this comment!
If it wasn't for those pesky polygamy laws, and if you didn't live even further north than Michigan, I'd marry you in a heartbeat. I hope you have enough beer in your fridge to console yourself.
There were cookies in this post? I didn't get any further than the magazine cover, sorry!
Okay I want some cake, cookies and a pot roast dinner!
I do that too! (the baking to relieve stress)
My friend complains that she'll get fat since she's always the one eating most of it. That looks like some good cake though.
Cast out by the Jenny Craig counselor...it does not get any harsher than that!
Would you share your recipe for that banana split cake? My hubby LOVES banana splits and I am certain he would enjoy this cake!
You want to make some more cookies and a cake like that and send them to me?
Jenny Craig just likes people being stressed out and they know that you and your cooking will help relieve your sister's stress.
Your pictures of food would tempt many.
@firefighterswife - I just emailed the recipe to you.
@IfWallsCouldTalk21 - Sorry, tonight's dinner is mulligatawny with rice, homemade bread and apple pie.
@saintvi - What is mulligatawny?...I like rice, bread, and apple pie.
@IfWallsCouldTalk21 - Mulligatawny is a West Indies chicken soup with curry, coconut, apples and cloves in it, in addition to the more usual ingredients like bell pepper, onion and carrots. It's really, really good! I just mix the rice into the soup instead of serving it separately.
Hey, if she can't eat it, I will! Send some out to Virginia, will ya?
I really want those cookies. I hope you're not too protective of your recipes...?
Those desserts looks soooo yummy!
@maayana - The "cake" isn't really a cake. It does have a graham cracker crust, but if you could find gluten-free graham crackers you might be able to eat it. The rest is margarine, cream cheese, powdered sugar, pineapple, bananas, Cool Whip, chocolate syrup and chopped nuts.
If she were still alive -- Marie Antoinette would say with all your heart to Jenny Craig....
“Let them eat cake.”
Always liked that woman, Marie. She did have a good head on her shoulders.
No fair! Now I'm hungry!
That gooey thing looks amazing! I cook when I'm stressed too, but more along the lines of savory things. Like pastas and roasts and whatnot. Every now and then I'll re-try my hand at soufles... tricky little things! And oh, if you ever need someone to complete your ideal arrangement, let me know! I would have LOVED to help. What can I say, I just love to help! haha
count me in on a cake like that.
Jenny Craig, who? psh.
@saintvi - that sounds heavenly!
i want the recipe for that cake!!! oh yeah oh yeah!!!
and @TheTheologiansCafe - what valerie bertinelli picture? all i could see were choc chip cookies (my FAVORITE) and a very yummy looking CAKE!!!
@LifeNeedsProtection - Haha! You crack me up, Charlotte!
Whoa. Whoa. Stop everything. Hold up a minute, Banana split cake? Banana split CAKE? (wiping my chin) I want the recipe for that. Please? Please with sugar and whipped cream? I promise to abandon my family and enter an isolated mountain convent to pray for you every day for the rest of my life. Please?
What a great spin on a stressful time. Love it!
The cake looks ultra YUMMY! I would LOVE to have the recipe. I cook tons when I am stressed too
@TheLoquaciousLady - @Adventures_of_BadNana - I wonder why my first reply didn't show up? Oh well - I've PMed the recipe to you both.
Now I want me some chocolate chips cookies. Your cookies look great!
