  • Hoisting Myself Onto the Bandwagon

Okay, I'm on the bandwagon. Here are my ten "confessions" about thirteen xangans. Most of those mentioned will probably recognize themselves, and many others will probably figure out who most of the confessions are about. What can I say; I'm not very good at dissimulation.

    PERSON #1
You were not what I expected. You are as you present yourself on xanga, and then… more. A lot more. It’s probably best if the world never experiences all that you are at once; I don’t think it could take it. You are fun and fearless and there are so many times we are thinking the exact same thing it’s almost frightening.

    PERSON #2
You are one of the sweetest, smartest and funniest people on xanga. Not to mention one of the best writers. And under that quiet exterior is an adventurous spirit that has led us (okay, maybe followed me) into all kinds of trouble. I treasure the friendship that’s grown between us more than you will ever know.

    PERSON #3
Xanga only knows one tiny side of you. Everyone knows your sarcasm, wit, and sardonic sense of humor. Only a few know the generous, caring, compassionate person you really are. You’ve become something of a role model to me. I’m in awe of your willingness to forgive and forge friendships with your detractors. I can only aspire to that kind of forgiving attitude.

    PERSON #4
Sometimes I worry about you. Sometimes I laugh at your twisted take on humility. Always I consider you a dear friend whom I think about every day, even if I’m not always hanging around my computer lately.

    PERSON #5
You are so much fun to know I smile at the mere mention of your name. You have the quickest, sharpest wit of anyone I know and whenever you’re around I know my head will be spinning and my jaws will be aching from laughter by the time you leave. I’m so happy we finally met.

    PERSON #6
My heart has ached so much for you. I’ve wished many times that I was near enough to hug you. I admire your strength and courage. And now you probably think this can’t possibly be about you, but it is. You always do what must be done even when you feel weak and afraid, and that is the definition of strength and courage. When I think of you, I picture you on a journey to an unknown destination. Like Doctor Who, it may not be where you want to go, but where you need to be, and you’ll figure it all out once you’re there. (That should take away all doubt that this one’s for you!)

    PERSON #7
Your lists are more entertaining than most people’s trying-to-be-funny posts. Especially mine. I adore your stylish, self-deprecating sense of humor and I’m in awe of all the things you do. You have a nimble mind to go with your nimble fingers; clever and creative in both thought and action.

    PERSON #8
Most of the time you make me laugh. Some of the time I can’t figure out what the heck you’re talking about. All of the time I’m pretty glad I can’t see everything that’s going on in that busy and creative head of yours. It must be like Wonderland as envisioned by Salvadore Dali in there. Magical, fantastical, and a little bit terrifying.

    PERSONS #9, #10, #11
Few people are just exactly themselves both on their blog and in real life. You three are part of that elite group. I grouped you three together because, while very different in personality, you share a common warmth that makes the people you meet feel like they’ve known you forever, and the ability to see the potential in everyone and then draw it out of them. I’ve sat with all of you and laughed until I cried. I hope someday to sit and laugh and cry with you again.

    PERSONS #12, #13
Sometimes people come across online as loud and brusque and tough, but when you meet them in person you discover a sweet, funny, soft-spoken woman or a man with a tough shell and a marshmallow center (not to mention killer dimples). Our upbringing, our circumstances and our personalities could not be more disparate, but I connected instantly with both of you.
