UPDATE: Since I have been gone for most of the week and haven't been pushing this contest, I will extend the deadline for entries to the 18th. Winners will still be announced on the 19th.
The Dread Pirate Brett
So, are you sick of contests? Then think of this as a challenge, a dare, or blogging inspiration. Call it what you will, there are prizes to be had! As is my custom, there are no rules, only a theme and a deadline. You can write something, take a photo, make a video, sing a song, draw or paint a picture - whatever floats your boat. Last year's winner made a fabulous skull and crossbones cheesecake. The theme is “Pirates” and the deadline is September 17th (a.k.a. Friday!!). One lucky winner will receive this fabulous piratey pen:
I know it's kinda lame, but it's the best I could do at the last minute this year. I braved incense and bongs to find this pen, and that doesn't even count the Hot Topic store I went into. My word, the sacrifices I make for you people!
Two runners-up will be allowed to choose a prize from my treasure chest of pirate booty.
This is last year's picture of the treasure chest. Most of that stuff is gone, but I will be restocking the chest and updating the photo at some point. Mostly though, it's cheap crap like what you see in the photo.
Judging will be completely subjective and most likely arbitrary in keeping with the theme. Winners will be announced on Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 19th.
Send me the link to your post by the 17th. Good luck!

Hey, I buy clothes at Hot Topic. It's a good store, as long as you can ignore all that Betty Page merchandise. :P
Hehe! I'm gearing up - All I have to do is enlist the technical assistance of the males in the family and I should have an entry in time!!!
It sounds fun!
Cool...especially for October.
@SoapAndShampoo - Maybe it was Spencer's I was so glad to get out of.
I do enjoy piratey things and contests, but I don't have any ideas right now. I guess we'll see.
@saintvi - Ok, Spencer's IS scary. Who knew it was legal to sell stuff like that in a shopping mall outside of Caligula's hometown.
My entry will be up shortly.
Okay. I posted. The swiniest swine on xanga
@doahsdeer - You are linked! Thank you for entering!
This sounds fun. Let's see what I can come up with. =D

Ahoy matey! Me and that salty dog Sparky have travelled th' seven seas in search of booty and glitterin' dubloons. Seein' as I be the Sailin'Master of the good ship Xanga, t'was only a matter o' time afore I was called t' accounts. I be no hornswaggler me bucko. Me entry be fair and me deadlights be set on th' chase 'n th' prize. All sprogs, scallywags and squiffys best clear away! Me entry is http://murisopsis.xanga.com/732887109/looking-piratey/ but it be a timestamped post for 6:43 AM on 9-17-2010.
This might be tough. Pirates are not an area of expertise for me. The only reason I am considering this is because its for you.
@murisopsis - You are linked. Poor Ranger didn't seem to like his eye patch!
@vanedave - That's a great reason!
I know what I would like to do for this, but I'm still on the road, roaming from house to house for the most part, I'm not sure I can do it. Maybe something ....
Here's my pirate Emoticon. P)~~~~~~~ Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr~
P-)
Neat pen. I am a lil late for this one. I'm more into vampires then pirates. The last pirate themed book I read was Blow Me Down by Katie MacAlister if that counts. lol!
