  • Is anyone still here?

    BodieGhost Town

I have no idea who all is left here. I'm too stubborn to give up and relocate my blog at least until the fabled Next Update. I still have hope for an eventual revival of sorts, but in the meantime blogging here feels kind of like living in a ghost town.

Life has been busy with all the usual stuff; water aerobics, barbershop chorus, church, errands and chores. Plus I've been puppy-sitting once a week. Boo does not know what to do with a boisterous puppy in the house. He spends the first three hours barking and growling and being defensive, and the last hour playing with Jack. I spend a lot of time separating them for the sake of my sanity.

The barbershop chorus will be performing at the Veteran's Day service this Tuesday. We'll be opening with the national anthem, followed by The Battle Hymn of the Republic, a Patriotic Show Medley, and Let There Be Peace on Earth. It's kind of weird to me to have The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Let There Be Peace on Earth in the same lineup, but I've always been uncomfortable with the Battle Hymn words and history so it's probably just me.

I am no longer volunteering weekly at the reception desk at the Red Cross chapter, but I'm still doing data entry for them as needed. My Mondays are so much less stressful now that I'm not rushing from one thing to the next all day.

We had a gale blow in off the lake on Halloween. After our tent gazebo blew away, we decided to ditch the pirate theme and decorations and go with something befitting the sleet and snow that had been falling all day. Plus Brett just wanted to wear a warmer costume.

    Ho, ho, ho... Merry Halloween!

We had music of Trans Siberian Orchestra playing, so there was a Nightmare Before Christmas vibe going. A lot of kids are scared of him in his pirate getup. I think maybe it's the three-foot long dreadlocks. This year there were kids running up the street to hug him and stopping to tell him what they want for Christmas. Several little ones said "Merry Christmas!" instead of "Trick-or-treat!" Krysten dressed as The Black Widow for work on Thursday, when they had their Halloween party for the kids.

Another lake gale blew in this week, but it wasn't as miserable as the first one. By the middle of next week we are expected to have three inches of snow on the ground. Yippee skippy.

Available at lulu.com if you want to read about my dad for some reason.

I finally got my dad's memoir published on one of the self publishing sites. Did I mention this already? If I did, it's still worth mentioning again. Dad hand wrote his memoir over a 10 year period. I started typing it in 1985 on my Smith Corona typewriter. I can't remember what year I finished. It was passed around the family for proofreading and editing, but the book is from my copy of the original, unedited manuscript. I've only read a couple of chapters so far because I've been immersed in the manuscript for so long I don't feel any real urgency to read it at the moment, but I've already figured out that I will need to read it with a pen and notepad handy to write down typos and their page numbers so I can fix them and eventually revise the manuscript. And while I'm at it, I'll probably try to fix the page numbering problem that I couldn't sort out originally, but think I've finally sort of figured out.

Brett and I watched last week's Doctor Who episode last night, and the season finale tonight. The new Doctor has grown on me over the course of the season. Clara, however, not so much. I am hoping Santa brings the Doctor a new companion for the Christmas special.

I'm sure there's more I could tell you about, but it's late and I have to get up for church in the morning.

  • It's good to see you again -- yes, there are a few of us die-hards still here on Xanga! I, too, am holding out till the end -- then will have to quickly figure out WP or some other avenue! I hate to tell you it's still summer here -- we had 1/2 inch of rain last week, but that won't break the drought! It will cool down to about 70 by the end of the coming week. Meantime, I've been thinking of you as I read about another polar express coming through the midwest. It's good to see you're keeping busy -- are you planning a photo door like you did a couple of years ago? I agree about the Battle Hymn of the Republic -- wow, Krysten makes a great Black Widow! And that's impressive that you finally got the book published -- congratulations!

    • Don't feel bad that it's still summer there. It's actually comforting to know that it's warm somewhere when it's miserable here --- as long astound don't rub my nose in it!

I started a photo door early in the year but didn't keep up with it very well. Now it's about time to take it down and prepare for Christmas cards.

  • I only visit Xanga when someone like you posts a link on their Facebook anymore. This ghost town feels sad from the days I remember better. I've migrated to other sites but - I am lost in those places because it's harder to set up the sites as I would do here in Xangaland. Not all change is bad; but life has so much for me to pour energy into right now, that blogging work will have to wait.

I am so glad that you could do that for your father! What a wonderful gift for the family that will be.

Thank goodness our Halloween trick or treating happened on the Sunday before the holiday. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and the costumes didn't have to be so covered. I love the way that your hubby went with the weather in determining his costume choice. What a fun memory about the kids running up to him, hm?

I didn't know you got a puppy! How fun! Boo will be ok before you know it.

    Bless ya!

  • I just renewed my site and ran out and I didn't realize it I would like to blog again.I so miss blogging and I miss our friends here.

  • Yay! A post!! I is a little Ghostly here but some of us persevere. I have found that with the smaller number of xangans I can read and respond to all the posts so that it is a cozy community. I miss Beth and so many of the others but some are still here... I love the costumes - Santa is a perfectly accessible character and much less intimidating than Brett's pirate (which is a great costume). The Black Widow is so well done even to the red hair! Jack is photogenic and I hope he is getting better about the house training. Poor Boo is probably just beside himself having the interloper sniffing all his toys and walking on his floors and, heaven forbid, getting attention from his adored owner!

  • I'm still here and new to you site ~ cute, cute pics of the dogs! Stop by and see me over on my page sometime ~ you would be very welcome ~ :)

  • I love the dog photos.
I think it's nice to see Santa a bit early and Trans Siberian Orchestra is cool. I like Christmas. I'm sure the little ones loved it rather than some of the spooky costumes they probably experienced elsewhere.
It's fun that Brett dresses up while handing out candy. I used to do that. This year I didn't even stay home; Last year there were hardly any kids.
Speaking of kids, I almost didn't recognize Kyrsten with the red hair. I'm glad she had fun.

  • my computers been on the blink for almost 6 months, but a cute young geek fellow fixed it for me...soooo....when I get caught up on the work I couldn't do without the internet I plan to start blogging regularly...I miss some of the old timers too, but I also agree with the mouse about having time to read the left behinds - Joyous One is very believable as is Brett - Poor Boo =((((

  • I'm here. My lifetime membership to xanga has expired but I can still post comments. :)
    May Saintvi forever wave.

  • Hello yes we're still here. I've been told I'm hard to find because I'm not smart enough to figure out how to link my name to my avatar apparently..... but I'm trying, and staying

  • Very cool "pumpkin dog" photos!
