  • Celestial Jerusalem

They sing about the New Jerusalem
A Holy City come down to earth
    My Celestial Jerusalem
Is not a city with gold-paved streets
Paradise for me is a country road
    Without the dust
A faint trail in the woods
    Without the thorns
    A grassy meadow
    Without the ticks
    And no spiders
    Or mosquitoes
Such a place would make my soul
Lift up its gates and sing
    Hosanna in the highest
    Hosanna to the King

I am now 6/6 in murisopsis's NPM Scavenger Hunt. When I saw the sixth prompt, "Celestial Jerusalem," I immediately thought of the old song The Holy City, which I used to play a very flamboyant version of on the piano, and every big-voiced church soprano sings at some point in her career. I don't like cities or crowds of people, so the idea of heaven being a city and eternity being spent in a crowd of people standing around the throne of God singing is not what I hope for after death.

If you don't hear from me tomorrow, I've probably been struck by lightning.

  • I doubt you will be struck by lightning. God knows what each of us wants and needs. I like the idea of a beautiful river coming from God's throne, and the trees on both sides bearing a different fruit each season. Like you, I hope for no thorns, ticks, spiders or mosquitoes. Also no snakes!

  • The cathedral of the Lord has a ceiling painted sky blue by He Himself, pillars of Oaks and Maples, and Ponderosa pines, a baptismal font of purest spring water bubbling up through the clay from which He formed Adam, an alter made of granite the size of a mountain, covered in white snows for linen, and pews of bright green moss softer than any man has ever dreamed.

  • And a choir of birds...

  • No lightening strikes - I'm pretty sure! I love this and yes the hymn is an old favorite. I think we may have had a foretaste of the feast to come when we were walking Saturday when the sky was so blue and the white bark of the trees shone in the sun.

    • I just hope I'm able to enjoy it more than I did yesterday. I had a wonderful day, but I was in a lot of pain. Better today, but still hurting a bit. I'm buying new orthotics this week.

  • I'd be willing to bet God just chuckled. God doesn't need any lightening, he did all that needs to be done through his Son on a cross. He doesn't get mad at us, because he wears Jesus colored glasses, and desires to love the junk and funk out of us. It's only if we leave this world without accepting the beautiful gift of Christ that draws the ire of God.
