Autumn in the Butterfly Garden
Nature is heaving her last big sigh before settling down for a long winter nap. We don't have much color in the foliage so far this fall. The nights have not gotten cold enough to transform the leaves from emerald green to brilliant hues of ruby, amber, and topaz. But that doesn't mean we don't have any color in our yard. The mums are particularly glorious this year.
The asters are making their annual attempt to take over the garden.
The giant pumpkin didn't make it this year, but two little rogue pumpkins turned up and are making a splash of orange in the grass.
The coral colored climbing roses burst into bloom for the second or third time this year.
A close inspection finds a hint of crimson as another climbing rose readies itself for a last hurrah before winter.
And most exciting of all, the peace rose we brought back from my mom's house in Arkansas last spring... the one that we had to cut back and pull out of the ground while it was in full bloom... the same one we hauled around in a bucket in the back of our van for a week in the hot southern sun... the very one we transplanted from thick Arkansas clay to sandy Michigan soil... is putting forth buds and about to bloom after only six months!
I am so excited! It looks like it will bloom this week, so I'll get a chance to see it before I leave for Arkansas next week.
There is more to share about the garden, but I'll save it for another post.
What is making you happy today?

This post makes me happy today! I am so thrilled that your mom's peace rose is blooming. The mums and the asters and the climbing roses seem to be competing to put out the most color. So I'm feeling happier having read this post. Hope you have a safe trip - with NO speeding tickets.
I'm with Val...I don't think I've been this happy all day...PEACE! (did you get a speeding ticket?)
Your garden is lovely -- I love your mom's rose, and how wonderful that it bloomed for you this year so you don't have to wait through the winter to see if it will take hold. This post makes me think that it's almost time to send you more colorful photos for your door!
That top picture is especially gorgeous. The color just Pops!
I hope you get to see your rose open, if not, I'm sure Brett will gladly take a photo of it for you.
What made me happy today is that I chose on my lunchbreak to head to a small park on the bayside. There were many butterflies, and several birds, not to mention the lovely view, which helped calm me after a hectic morning.
The roses are the most persistent flowers ;
The asters are the heavens of the bees but they are invaders in the garden.
You stll have many flosers in bloom.
But as you say winter is not so far at time!
Love
Michel
My friend, what is making me happy is the lovely sound of Edelweiss coming from the swan. You made my day, my week!
This whole post is rather glorious! The rose, that made me all weepy. Good stuff.
